Frogs for Breakfast?!

If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.

Mark Twain

Okay, so we are not literally talking about eating frogs here. The point Mark Twain makes with this statement is that if you have to do something unfavorable, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. That way, the rest of your day will be smooth sailing in comparison.

So why did I choose this quote for this post?

Do you ever have days so busy, that the only time you have for exercise is first thing in the morning? Especially now that it’s getting colder outside, it seems even more daunting to leave the comfort of your cozy bed. This is when Mark Twain comes in. Get it over with first off, and then the rest of your day will be easy-breezy.

I know, I know, who wants to get out of bed for 100 burpees for time?

I feel you! But what I’ve learned from working out is that I can do hard things. This has spread beyond the gym walls and into many other aspects of my life. For example, if I have an impossible deadline closing in at work, I know I have to dig deep and make magic happen. I know I can do this in the last round of a grueling workout, so why not at work, too? So the ability to pry yourself out of bed in the morning to go face that cardio you don’t want to do will also teach you something about yourself. You are the person who can make things happen regardless of comfort.

You are capable of setting yourself up for success by just “eating that frog.”

Besides shifting the perspective on the rest of your day, other benefits of eating the frog first thing in the morning are (but not limited to):

  • More energy throughout the remainder of the day
  • Starting the day with a healthy choice will manifest more healthy choices
  • Mindset – Look! You did something uncomfortable that was good for you! Be proud!

Eat the frog and have an awesome day.
